From here the view is terrific! Every time I visited friends in Dortmund, they brought me here. But also the monument itself, with the 34 meter high tower and the equestrian statue of the emperor is no less impressive. Do not forget the jacket! This is somehow always a strong wind. But you can use them anyway when hiking in the area.

Offering grandious views across the valley, the Hohensyburg, also called Sigiburg or Syburg, is located on the 245 meter high Syberg above the confluence of the Ruhr and Lenne above the artificial Hengsteysee in southern Dortmund district Syburg. Nearby are the natural stage Hohensyburg (since 1952) and the Hohensyburg casino (since 1985). The Ruhr escarpments Hohensyburg is a recognized and protected nature reserve. The Syburg Bergbauweg presents relics of modern mining.
A monument in the memory of Kaiser Wilhelm I with four related still images was erected here from 1893 and handed over to the public on 30 June 1902. The architecture was by Hubert Stier, sculptures by Adolf von Donndorf. In 1935 based on plans by the Dortmund sculptor Friedrich Bagdons it was completely rebuilt and redesigned according to National Socialist architecture.

The tour starts in the city as you walk through an old town center. This one is nice and small, but having to walk along the main street with the dogs afterwards was not so nice. Along the Ruhr it is very nice. Of course, even in good weather quite busy. The forest path up to the memorial is not necessarily suitable for children or pensioners. However, when you have overcome the hurdles of high-tow over roots and sometimes very high levels, you will be rewarded with a fantastic view. Above is a beautiful park that connects the monument and the ruin. All in all, a nice tour with a few minus points.
