At the opening on August 17, 1956, all 2,500 seats in the Heide Theater were filled. The dancing evenings to the latest Amiga records were particularly popular with the guests. As long as the sector boundary was open, theater operations ran well. Visitors came from East and West. With the Volkspark and open-air theater, the GDR government wanted to build on the 1930s, when the Dreamland, the successor to the Lunapark, was located in the Schönholzer Heide.
