      From the Karches-See or Karches-Weiher with the Waldrasthaus Karches (hiking car park) the Goetheweg leads to the Weißmainfelsen, the Weißmainquelle and the Ochsenkopf summit. Goethe himself probably did not hike this route to the Ochsenkopf summit on July 1, 1785.

        The fastest way to descend from Weißmainfelsen. The path is more of a narrow root path and is therefore really inviting. A nice alternative to the wide forest path.

              In the footsteps of the famous German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe through the Fichtelgebirge - the Goetheweg on the Ochsenkopf. The approx. 5 km long hiking trail is a homage to the route of Goethe, who climbed the second highest mountain in the Fichtelgebirge, the Ochsenkopf, in 1785. The short hike starts in Karches and leads from there up the mountain to the Weißmainfelsen, past the Weißmainquelle and finally to the Ochsenkopf summit. Wonderful views over the Fichtelgebirge await you along the route – on nice days even as far as Bayreuth and the Czech Republic. Those who follow the markings of the orange book will not go astray in Goethe's footsteps.
