On the Tappenkar, a mountain in the Kleinarl valley, there is a swampy mountain back, called "the worm field". A large Lindworm once lived here, causing a lot of harm among the herds of cattle. The Kleinarler game and fish suppliers of the Salzburg Archbishop stuffed a cowhide with moss so that it looked like a bark, and put a packet of detergent in place of the stomach. Then they threw this explosive four-legged "fish" into the lake. No sooner had the Lindwurm seen the supposed cow than he pounced on it and devoured it as if it were just a small fork bite. The effect of the detonating powder immediately became apparent. An explosion occurred and killed the monster, relieving the population of great concern.
In another version of the saga, however, the lindworm should not be completely destroyed. It is said that he only retreated to the depths, and so there was only more harm to do when the Lindwurm escaped, and the consequences would eventually turn against the people living in the valley. There, in the depths of the Tappenkar, the worm gnaws only “relentlessly on the rocks that separate the lake from the valley”. And one day this evil rodent would "break down the thin wall" and the water of Lake Tappenkarsee "flood the Kleinarl valley to a large extent". [2]
In a child-friendly and less bloodthirsty version, the Lindwurm baby in Tappenkarsee is reported, which is very shy and only rarely and very briefly shows up on the water surface.
