Worth seeing exhibition hall with the collection of historical vehicles of the border troops East and West, even a helicopter is on display.

Mödlareuth is a village of about 50 inhabitants, which is partly in the state of Bavaria (district of Hof) and partly in the state of Thuringia (Saale-Orla-Kreis). For 41 years, the inner-German border ran through the middle of the village along the Tannbach.

In addition to the partly original, partly reconstructed outdoor facilities, there is also a museum, a cinema with interesting documentation (also in several languages), and a vehicle hall with various cars and trucks from the GDR border guards and from the Federal Border Guard. You can even see an original Alouette II helicopter and a tank outside.
If this MADNESS of the time does not go to the kidneys, that can not be helped ... The charts should be looked at more closely and read through. It is inconceivable how people in the divided village must have felt back then - on BOTH sides - but much worse on the Thuringian side.

Also recommended is the television series "Tannbach", which deals with people's lives shortly before and after the end of World War II in the fictional divided village "Tannbach". Parallels to the real village of Mödlareuth are absolutely intended. And Tannbach is also the name of the little stream that was the actual border between Mödlareuth East and Mödlareuth West, GDR and FRG, "Eastern Europe" and "Western Europe". By the way, the regional and political division has always existed (16th century or so). The real blocked border only since the 1950s. In 1966 the wall was built in the village.
On December 9, the border was opened and people were able to walk through a piece of the cracked wall for the first time.
And we were there at the time! I can still remember exactly how it was yesterday!

By the way, a hike on the column path to B2 is recommended. The area is also ideal for hiking and cycling tours away from the border museum and the former wall.

Mödlareuth, the divided village, also called "Little Berlin". Definitely worth seeing museum with great outdoor area and many display boards on the history of the formerly divided village.

“Remembering as a task”, what a demand for this place Mödlareuth and for all visitors!
                The Americans called it
"Little Berlin", this village of 50 people
which was considered a symbol of the division of Germany. The Thuringian part has belonged to the place since the two German states were founded
to the territory of the GDR, the Bavarian half to the Federal Republic.
The first barriers were built in 1952. In 1966 the 700m long concrete barrier was built, which divided the village until 1989.
At the metal barrier, just go inside and take a look at Mödlareuth in Thuringia and then recall this madness.
🙏 that it is and remains different now, it is worth every effort, from every citizen!

It is very important to preserve such places for future generations.

The zone border went right through the Thuringian / Bavarian village of Mödlareuth and not only cut up the village, but also separated entire families. In the place itself a wall was built, like in Berlin. Part of the wall was deliberately preserved as a memorial. There is also a small museum. Entrance to the museum and outdoor facilities € 3.

                    번역자 Google •

The detour to the museum is worthwhile to really understand the construction of the border system. One thing is to read things, to really stand by and see how cordoned off the citizens of the GDR were, is another matter ...

founded. The stated aim is to portray the history of the
German division in its entirety. Not just walls, fences
and barbed wire, but also the political, economic,
social and everyday historical aspects of this division
should be thematized and exemplarily based on regional and local

The former Federal Chancellor Dr. Helmut Kohl is also the Chancellor of Unity and rightly so. He was the driving force behind restoring German unity as quickly as possible. But he also had the foresight that this would not work without a united Europe, as we know it today and no longer want to be without it. A memorial in such an exposed position is a great honor.

The well-designed exhibition hall is located in the upper part of the main box office and film screening building. Well-made display boards provide information about the history of the place, but also about the history of the division of Germany.

These were and are not two villages, but one village. The river Tannbach divided the village into a Bavarian and a Thuringian part, the cold war with the division of Germany did the rest. It's good that there is a reminder here today.
