Construction of the octagonal 44m high tower began in 1915 and was completed in 1916. However, due to World War I, it was not put into operation until 1918.
The light height is 40m, and the light can still be seen from 21.5 nautical miles (32.7km).
In 1987, the tower was listed as a historical monument.
Since 1996, it has only been used as a warning tower by the German army and is intended to warn shipping when live ammunition is fired over the sea at the adjacent military training area.
