From a vantage point on the south side, you can see far across the countryside as far as Chemnitz, and in good weather, even as far as the Geisingberg, Kahleberg, and Fichtelberg, as well as some peaks of the Czech Ore Mountains, such as Jeleni Hora. From the tower, you can also see the Petersberg near Halle, and on very good visibility, even the Brocken, 173 km away.

A porphyry educational trail has been established on and around the Rochlitzer Berg, demonstrating and documenting the history of stone mining. The trail was designed as a circular route and also offers insights into the former quarries, which are up to fifty meters deep. A detour (approx. 3 km) to Rochlitz Castle is also worthwhile.

Also located on the mountain is the 27-meter-high "Friedrich-August-Turm," built in 1860, from which you can enjoy excellent views. The tower was designed by the well-known Freiberg drawing teacher Eduard Heuchler and is dedicated to the Saxon King Frederick Augustus II, who died in an accident in 1854. As station no. 17 Rochlitz, the tower was a first-order station of the Royal Saxon Triangulation System in the 1860s. For this reason, a surveying column was erected on the observation platform, which has survived to this day. The "Türmerhaus" restaurant was rebuilt next to the tower in 2002. Visitors can reach it via a short climb from the parking lot.

The Friedrich August Tower, with its glowing red porphyry, crowns the Rochlitzer Berg and can be seen from many directions. On clear days, the tower offers a comprehensive panoramic view, stretching from the Ore Mountains to the Monument to the Battle of the Nations in Leipzig and the Collmberg in Oschatz.

On August 9, 1854, King Friedrich August II was traveling through Tyrol. He died after falling from his carriage. His body was buried in the Dresden Court Church on August 16. Because the king had visited the Rochlitzer Berg several times during his lifetime, a committee decided in 1855 to erect a memorial to him there. The design was by Freiberg professor Eduard Heuchler. Since 8,000 thalers were required for the construction, a lively and successful fundraising campaign began throughout the country. The construction of the tower, which has a height of 27 meters, took four years, from 1855 to 1859....

The Rochlitzer Berg, surrounded by several quarries, is worth seeing.

There are two large free parking lots at the Rochlitzer Berg and the Türmerhaus mountain restaurant.

The observation tower right next to the restaurant, which you can climb for a 1 euro entrance fee, is worth a visit.

The Roman numerals represent 1859, the year the Friedrich August Tower was completed. However, it was not inaugurated until May 28, 1860, the late king's birthday.
