Built in 1867 on the shore of an old wooden mill. A ban mill has stood here for centuries, the feudal right of which was sold to the city in 1267 by Countess Margareta of Constantinople. An oil mill is housed in the mill wall.

The Schellemolen is a stone windmill in Damme, Belgium. The white-painted mountain mill dates from 1867 and replaced an earlier standard mill. There has been a mill on this spot along the Damse Vaart since 1479. The mill is equipped with two pairs of stones and an oil mill in the basement. The mill operation was stopped in 1963, after which the Schellemolen fell into disrepair. In 1971 the province of West Flanders bought the mill and had it restored. In 1977 it was able to grind again. The mill can be visited every weekend from April 1 to September 20.

Postcard windmill on the Damse Vaart canal in Damme
The whitewashed Schellemühle in the Belgian town of Damme on the Damse Vaart canal, which connects Bruges and Sluis as a waterway, is particularly picturesque. The stone windmill was built in 1867 on the foundations of an old wooden mill on the canal; the first windmill was already here in 1479. An oil mill is housed in the mill wall. The Damme Schellemühle is a great postcard backdrop for the paddle steamer "Lamme Goedzak", which regularly travels on the Damse Vaart canal between Damme and Bruges. (Source cadzand-online)
