Haus Langendonk was a moated castle on the Lower Rhine. Today, only the ruin of a tower is present of the plant, which is not far from the Issumer Fleuth in the district of Geldern Aengenesch north of the B 58 from Issum to Geldern. The ruin is registered in the list of monuments of the city of Geldern and is therefore listed as a listed building.

History

The House of Langendonk was first mentioned in a document dated April 30, 1391. In it, the squire Johann von Wyenhorst presented his "huys zu Langendunck" to the Archbishop of Cologne, Friedrich III of Saarwerden, as an open house. The archbishop had previously permitted him to fortify the property. However, the Electorate of Cologne was not permitted to use the complex for military purposes against the Dukes of Guelders and the Dukes of Berg.[2] This exception resulted from the curious fact that the Fleuth River, which flowed through the castle grounds, formed the border between the Duchy of Guelders and the Electorate of Cologne, so that the inner castle of the House of Langendonk belonged to the Electorate of Cologne, while the outer castle belonged to Guelders.

After the death of Johann von Wyenhorst, Johann von Alpen, bailiff of the Cleves region and owner of Haus Zelhem, was granted Haus Langendonk in 1436. Other known owners were Arnold von Wachtendonk in 1672 and Adolf Bertram von Wachtendonk in 1693. From 1696 onwards, they were the Lords of Ossery.
