"Welcome to a special forest!
He belongs to the city of Lübeck, which has developed a special concept for the use of their forests. It seeks to match the desires we humans have for the forest with the needs of the living beings that make up the forest. And this wonderful, mindful concept succeeds: The self-regulating forest system is intervened as little as possible, but at the same time it is carefully accessed on well maintained forest trails.

The entire so-called Lauerholz is with 960 hectares of the largest city forest among the forests of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck, one of the most important recreational areas and the green lung of the city, east of Altadtinsel. It is predominantly a high forest area with the deciduous tree species oak, beech, ash and sycamore. In the western part it is crossed by the brook Medebek. In 2017, the Rittbrookpfad opened the first of three nature discovery trails, a kind of "green classroom" for children.
