This picturesque lake is not only a refuge for those looking to escape from everyday life, but also a piece of living history.
This quiet body of water was born as early as the 17th century. A huge rockfall blocked the path of a stream and formed the pond we know today. The name “Mermaid Pond” is no coincidence - popular legends surround mermaids who live in its depths and come to the surface in the moonlight to sing their silvery song.
However, the pond does not only contain stories of mythical creatures. Another chapter of its history tells of the mill that stood on its banks. Powered by the power of water, it was a witness to a time when life pulsated to the rhythm of nature. But in 1849 this idyll was suddenly destroyed. A huge cloudburst caused the mill to sink into the floods, and with it a part of the daily life of the residents at the time.
