    The tumulus is located directly at the starting point of the dream path Pellender Seepfad. Here you can park and walk to the Laacher See.

      The tumulus is a round grave made of tuff. It was built shortly after the birth of Christ. The tuff came from the Roman mine in Meurin.
      The niche tomb with the three pillars is made of limestone.
      Both graves were built according to Celtic custom.

          This is a good place to start a hike, as there is a large parking lot. This is an archaeological excavation site.
          There are no opening hours, as the tumulus and the Roman stone relief are freely accessible. There are information boards on site that provide information about the relics.

              "Elaborately built burial mounds (so-called tumuli) such as those in Nickenich and Ochtendung impressively show how Celtic and Roman culture can merge. Wealthy Celts were buried here in the 1st century AD according to Roman custom. The valuable tuff stone from the tuff mines in the valley of the Krufter Bach was used as building material.

              In Nickenich we even know the names of the deceased: Contuinda with her son Silvanus. Both are also depicted on the niche tomb that was discovered right next to the tumulus. They probably lived in a nearby villa rustica, a Roman estate."
