The ascent to the Lilienstein is already very strenuous in itself. But I would definitely like to point out that it is better to go up via the steeper Nordstieg and down via the Südstieg! Why? Because the Nordstieg is so steep and so strenuous that going downhill is extremely painful on your knees!! The very steep path drags on in the long run. There are also steep sections on the Südstieg, but overall it is less steep and therefore better for the knees on the descent. Unfortunately I did it wrong...

From the north descent you have a magnificent view of the wide Elbe valley. The Elbe winds its way through the landscape as a silvery ribbon and is lined with picturesque villages and towns whose roofs and towers sparkle in the sun. In particular, the historic town of Bad Schandau can be seen in all its glory from here, nestled between the green hills and the mighty river.

In addition to the Elbe valley, the north descent also offers views of other characteristic rock formations of Saxon Switzerland. In good weather, the contours of neighboring table mountains and rocky outcrops are clearly visible, and you get a feel for the impressive topography of this unique region.

The north descent offers significantly fewer views than the south option. Furthermore, you're more likely to see the hinterland.
The descent and ascent are steeper and more challenging. I would do both options. Each is beautiful in its own right.
