The Hugo Ludwig Bridge
Up until 1952, it was not possible to bypass the Weißensee without a difficult ascent and descent at this point. The rocky outcrop and the immediately steeply sloping lake shore prevented this.
It was only after the generous donation for the entire iron structure from Hugo Städtgen and Ludwig Prem, long-standing, loyal guests of our town, who had learned to appreciate the Weißensee and its recreational value, that the Weißensee tourist office was able to complete the walk across this footbridge.
It was hard work:
In the winter of 1952, machines and material could be transported across the ice cover of the lake so that work could begin. It was drilled, chiselled, welded and screwed from the ice, and in the spring of 1953 the prefabricated structure was concreted and completed.
The naming is intended to remember the sponsors of this small but important building for all time.
Beautiful jetty that allows an ideal lake-near circumnavigation! 🤩👍
