The baroque castle ensemble of Moritzburg Zeitz consists of the three-wing main building in the rear castle courtyard, as well as the Gothic castle church of St. Peter and Paul, the baroque gatehouse and the outbuildings grouped around the front castle courtyard. From a former royal palace with a church, a new building was completed by the end of the 12th century. In the 14th and 15th centuries, the Romanesque-style church was rebuilt into a Gothic-style hall church as a cathedral. In GDR times, the cathedral fell and parts collapsed. After the reunification, it was rehabilitated again, and 2004, the renovation was completed.
