The locks Hünxe belong - from the Rhine - to the second of the six channel stages of the Wesel-Datteln-Kanal (WDK) at channel kilometer 13.31.

The lock group has a drop height of 5.50 meters.

The large lock is 222 meters long, 11.85 meters wide and has lift gates at both ends. It was built in 1923. The lift gates had to be renewed in 1993.

The small lock was built 1965-1967, is 112 meters long, 11.62 meters wide. It has a Hubsenktor at the upper water and at the underwater a Schiebetor with gate bridge. The chamber is equipped with a Luftsprudelanlage that prevents at least temporarily the icing of the chamber.

Both locks are designed for a draft of 2.80 meters.

The operation of both locks is done by the lock operator in the control booths on site. The pumping station is operated by the remote control center (FZW) of the Wasser- und Schifffahrtsamt Duisburg-Meiderich in Datteln, which was put into operation in 1984.

In 2009, the riverbed will be rehabilitated in Oberwasser. [2]

About 80 meters above the channel level is the Hünxe Wasserwanderrastplatz.
