A very nice but difficult mountain hike, it is quite steep uphill and downhill. Hiking poles recommended, surefootedness and alpine experience must be available. There are very nice viewpoints around the entire mountain hike. On the whole way there are always benches, as well as isolated barbecue areas. After arriving at Rigi Kulm, the view of the Alps and the lakes is a dream for the eyes and soul.
Highlight of the mountain hike I felt the following for me:
- Chapel of the Holy Cross is very nice to visit when it is open. However, you can have a look. Was built in 1685 and renovated in 1778. For mountain hiking a very nice place with a wonderful view of Lake Lucerne.
- After the chapel on the way there are bunkers, maybe you could go in with a flashlight, the doors are open. Unfortunately I didn't have a headlamp with me, so I can't say what it's like inside.
- Felsentor the view is just fabulous. Here you can eat something at the Felsentor Foundation. There is a nice outdoor space.
- Rigi Kaltbad First there are various shops (small ones) where you can buy something. There are also various restaurants (Restaurant Gratalpstübli, Restaurant Alpina, and a creperie.
- Rigi Staffel there is also a very nice restaurant (Restaurant Gnuss) with a dreamlike terrace. As well as at the station there are public toilets
- Rigi Kulm here you have reached the summit and now you can admire the view. Various benches are available to have something to eat or there is also a large restaurant and a small kiosk.
