Eight memorial gardens were created, each in the shape of a poppy, a symbol of the war. Each garden was designed to commemorate the unique contribution and sacrifice of each country during the Battle of Passchendaele, using symbolic vegetation, modern art and poetry. The following countries were involved: Belgium, United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, France, Germany, USA.

After the First World War, the castle was rebuilt in Norman style. Since 1982 the domain has been opened as a walking area. In 2004 the "Memorial Museum Passchendaele" was opened here. The visitor goes through the 5 strokes at Ypres. One can walk in a German trench or descend into a 6m deep British dugout with communication and first aid station, headquarters and sleeping quarters.
