From 1837 the castle was diverted. In the following years, a state prison, a provincial hospital and a penitentiary were opened. From 1842 nursing staff were trained in the castle. In 1846, an educational institution for epileptic and idiotic children followed, as it was then called. In 1852 an educational institution for mentally handicapped children was opened, in 1870 a dairy farm. In 1874 a medical directorate was added to the asylum, and in 1888 a nursing home for female nurses. As of 1893, the castle was officially recognized as a health and nursing home and received improved sanitary conditions.
During the Second World War, the institution was dissolved and the castle was used for the military.

Fritsch proved himself as President of the Commission so much that the King and Prime Minister also appointed him Electoral Saxon negotiator for the peace negotiations with Prussia. As Saxon plenipotentiary Fritsch signed on 15 February 1763 the Peace of Hubertusburg.
On March 24, 2007, the monument to the Saxon peacemaker was inaugurated at Hubertusburg. Thus, after 244 years, the baron was once again honored for his role as negotiator at the end of the Seven Years' War.
The huge boulder is from the Wermsdorf quarry. The elaborately crafted sandstone slab with the gold-colored frame and the black face of the Barons is attached to it. The client for the late honor is the "Freundeskreis Hubertusburg".
