Netzschkau Castle was built around 1490 and was one of the first castles in Saxony. Caspar von Metzsch, who had a great influence on the Saxon court, was the builder of the unfortified residential palace.
It changed hands several times and was a multi-wing complex until the middle of the 20th century. However, this had to be demolished due to dilapidation, so that only the present-day castle, originally built by Metzsch, remained. Netzschkaus has owned the building since 1944. After the death of the last owner, Countess Frida von Schönburg-Hinterglauchau (1864–1943), the city acquired it for 100,000 Reichsmarks.
