If the legend is to be believed, there is actually something spooky about the witch pond. It is said that witches were unmasked there in the Middle Ages. As a test, they tied them up, threw them into the pond and waited to see if they drowned or floated up. If they swam to the surface after being thrown into the water, they were identified as witches and then burned. Otherwise they were innocent, but that also meant they were dead... by drowning. Whether true or not: a story to fear that you can tell others here very nicely.

Two ponds (ponds) below the village of "Spreitgen" are called "Hexenweiher". Whether so-called witch trials were carried out in the Middle Ages has not been historically proven.

Witch trials means: The women were hand and footcuffed and thrown into the pond. If they went under, they were considered innocent. Most of the time, however, it was said: "You swam well." But then their fate was sealed.

Witch trials took place at Homburg Castle. On September 14, 1631, six women from the Oberkirchspiel were executed on one such charge. They were pardoned to the edge of the sword because they had "voluntarily" "stood" beyond the indictment.
