At the beginning of the 19th century, Prince Johann I von Liechtenstein commissioned various vantage points around Mödling, which at that time was totally in the hands of rulers. Somehow understandable, because the view into the Vienna Basin is from up here the madness! Originally the tower, which is not black at all, was intended as a lookout tower, was used in the meantime as a forester's house and is now privately inhabited - so you can not visit it. The view on it together with a view of the valley is nevertheless impressive.

Artificial ruin in the pine forest of the Kalenderberg on the rocky slope to Mödlinger «Klausen». Built in 1809 by Prince Johann I von und zu Liechtenstein on the foundations of an old "Wachthäusel".
The Black Tower is located directly on the border between Maria Enzersdorf and Mödling. It is privately owned, is inhabited and can not be visited.

Great view over Mödling. On a clear day you can see as far as Vienna. The tower can be reached via several routes, not only via the steps. From the tower you can hike a beautiful circular route. A nice destination. Unfortunately, you can't go into the tower itself, but it's still a super great photo opportunity and a very nice spot from which you can see beautiful views over Mödling. 😊👍
