The picturesque location of the castle Rheinstein enchanted in 1823 the Prince Frederick of Prussia, who also bought the castle promptly. At that time, the castle was little more than a dilapidated ruin, but after several years of reconstruction, the Prince could move into his domicile. The castle was then built with careful preservation of the medieval fabric to a romanticized residential castle.

This form is preserved to this day and can be visited. The castle now houses a museum and an adjoining restaurant. In addition, the view from the wall and from the towers down to the Rhine Valley is simply picturesque. If you can not get enough of the castle, then you should also look at the accommodation offers.

Well-preserved castle above the Rhine Valley. Unfortunately, even if you just want to eat or for a snack in the restaurant that is otherwise inaccessible within the castle grounds, in addition a steep admission required (5 euros per person!)

The Rheinsteig castle can be reached via the Soonwaldsteig between Trechtingshausen and Bingen or from the Rhine. Access also between Trechtingshausen and Bingen.
The castle was rebuilt very classically in the 18th century and conveys a true romantic castle feeling. The castle garden is one of the world vineyards in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley. Nice views from a great castle with a fine restoration and well-tended beer garden. A real knight's castle!
Dogs are allowed into the castle on a leash. The visit is really worth it.

Rheinstein Castle, which was made very visitor-friendly. You screw your way through the building and the rooms via a number of stairs and also get to the top of the tower. Very nice, you should actually spend 2-3 hours there.

Rheinstein Castle has been part of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2002. Built 1316/17.

The steep climb to "Rheinstein Castle" is rewarded with a fantastic view at the top. It's worth climbing all the towers and looking into every little room. The tower rooms are particularly beautiful, but I liked everything else too. I enjoyed sitting in the castle cafe with the wonderful view.
But be careful: If you're traveling with the "Ringticket", you should definitely get the "Ringticket Plus" for 22 euros. This already includes entry to the castle, otherwise you pay another 9.50 euros. Unfortunately, I only had the normal Ringticket for 20 euros. (FYI: Ringticket entitles you to the cable car rides and the boat trip.)
