An exotic world in the middle of the city - Hagenbeck's zoo.
You don't have to go far to learn about the different habitats on earth and their inhabitants: in the middle of Hamburg, Hagenbeck Zoo offers special insights into the life of reptiles, elephants, lions and polar bears, which are actually found in the Africa or Antarctica are at home.
At Hagenbeck, the most important thing is the species-appropriate keeping of the animals. A total of 210 different species live in listed landscape panoramas and innovative enclosures, such as the tropical aquarium or the world's unique Arctic Ocean. Germany's only walrus group, for example, also feels at home there.
Many outdoor enclosures such as the Africa Panorama are home to elephants, flamingos and the like. Polar bears, penguins and also rays and sharks can feel comfortable in particularly deep water pools. Visitors can get very close to the animals here: in the aquarium, special panoramic windows ensure that exciting dives can be observed. Elsewhere in the zoo, humans and animals are only separated from one another by trenches.
If you walk through the park, you can not only observe more than 1,800 animals, but also experience a special journey through the different cultures. Large parking areas, Asian temples, original totem poles from North America and a special plant and tree population combine experience and knowledge transfer.
