The first construction phase was under the direction of Francesc Roca i Simó, the second construction phase was under the direction of the Spanish architect Guillem Reynés Font (1877 - 1918).

Both buildings were originally designed as apartment buildings.

The building was commissioned and named after Josep Casasayas Casajuana, the owner of the traditional confectionery Can Frasquet at Carrer d'Orfila 4, which was first mentioned in writing in 1697.

With their striking, towering and magnificently decorated exterior facades, the two houses dominate the cityscape on the Placa del Mercat like hardly any other building in the vicinity.

The characteristic Art Nouveau design is inevitably reminiscent of the Art Noveau of the famous Catalonian architect Antoni Gaudí i Cornet (1852 - 1926) and the spectacular design of Casa Batlló, Casa Mila and Casa Amatller in Barcelona.

The typical stylistic elements of Modernisme Català such as motifs inspired by nature, curved lines, flowing shapes and a playful design are omnipresent here.

The wavy design gives the exterior facades a very peculiar symmetry and a high degree of dynamics and plasticity.

The predilection for organic ornaments can be seen above all in the wrought-iron balcony railings and the capitals of the upper columns, which are lavishly decorated with stylized ferns, hogweed and butterflies.

The building materials used were sandstone, wood, iron and wrought iron.

The two houses were originally intended to be connected by a pedestrian bridge. However, this idea was never actually implemented.

Today the buildings house apartments and offices.

On March 21, 2001, the building was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest of the Patrimonio Histórico Español.
