There are Ramblas in several Spanish cities. It is said that this Rambla is nothing special compared to other Ramblas, such as the one in Barcelona (I also find some other streets worth seeing there), nevertheless it is one of the most famous promenades in Palma. The word Rambla derives from the Arabic word for sand and today means "road to the sea".

The Torrent Sa Riera flowed along here through the middle of the city as early as the Middle Ages. When there was heavy rainfall at Puig de Galatzó, severe flooding sometimes occurred here. In 1403, 1,500 houses were destroyed by the water masses and 5,000 people drowned in the floods. In 1613 it was decided to go ahead and redirected the torrent.
With moderate success: there were at least 4 other severe floods. It was not until 1850 that the diversion was channeled, which has since protected Palma from further flood disasters.

La Rambla is a beautiful avenue that you can walk on in the shade, but I have to agree with Kai: more than the many flower stalls, it does not connect it to the other boulevards in Spain.
I would then describe the Passeig del Born as a boulevard.

Beautiful avenue between 2 one-way streets for pedestrians with attractive facades and small flower stalls. There are steps down from Plaça Major. Once at the bottom you will find the Teatre Principal a few steps to the left, where you feel transported back in time.
