Hikes to Catstycam take you to arguably one of the most spectacular summits in the whole Lake District. The lofty termination of Helvellyn’s Swirral Edge, the fell rises to a pointed apex which rewards with magnificent views of its parent mountain and the famously beautiful Ullswater. A soaring pyramidal peak from many angles, it is a superb objective.

    Catstycam is a soaring pyramidal peak. It is one of the most spectacular summits in the whole Lake District, as well as one of the highest, at 2,920 feet (890 m). It rises as the dramatic termination of Helvellyn’s Swirral Edge and rewards with magnificent views of its parent mountain and beautiful Ullswater.

    As well as from Swirral Edge, you can approach Catstycam via its eastern shoulder from the main path to Red Tarn. The most adventurous way up is probably the north west ridge, which is steep, wild but without technical difficulty.

        Beautiful views from the top of this hill which has a small point style peak.

          Catstye Cam is a stunning pyramid mountain in an exceptionally beautiful setting sitting just under Helvellyn and just across from Striding Edge. Having a great scramble like Swirral Edge nearby is just the icing on the cake to this hill. Doing it on a sky blue day was just superb!

            Personally I prefer the views from here more than the summit of Helvelyn and most people skip this out so it’s usually quiet and peaceful

                Great views of the surrounding hills. However, quite exposed, take a coat!
