Basilica, the z. T. is freely accessible and stands in place of the former chapel of a fortified castle. The monumental statue is visible from afar with its 22.40 m height.

This house of God is dedicated to Saint Joseph, the foster father of Jesus Christ. Like Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist, he is a man on the threshold from the Old to the New Testament. Joseph was from the house of David, one of the twelve tribes of Israel. He was a carpenter by trade and the fiancé of the Blessed Mother Mary.
The feast day of Saint Joseph in the saints calendar is on March 19th, and on May 1st the church celebrates the feast of "Joseph the Worker".

From here you have the most beautiful view of Le Puy-en-Velay. You can see the 3 peaks of Chapelle Saint-Michel, the Statue de Notre-Dame and Cathédrale Notre-Dame.
The huge statue of Saint Joseph is not open to visitors (as of May 2023). Renovation work needs to be done here.
