Until a few years ago, the forest still seemed healthy, green, vital and offered a habitat for many wild animals. But with several drought summers in a row, not only foresters can see that the forest is doing badly. The forest in the Harz becomes lighter and bare spruces characterize the landscape. Damage is mainly caused by storms, drought and pest infestation, such as the bark beetle. Extreme year follows extreme year. Our trees have never fared as badly as they have in recent years.

The circular path is beautiful. You walk over the sand, the wooden walkway and then past the bathing area and there are plenty of opportunities to take a break. It's like a little vacation when you're there.
