London's original China Town was located in Limehouse. It had a very bad reputation, not least because of the press writing scandalous articles. The area was badly damaged in the Blitz and people moved to other areas after the war. The development of Soho China Town started in the 1970s.

The quickest way to get to Chinatown is by subway via Piccadilly Circus. The stop of the same name is just a few minutes' walk from Garret Street, where a large gate marks the entrance to Chinatown. A pedestrian zone with Asian restaurants and shops stretches along Garret Street. However, the price level there is significantly higher than in the rest of Chinatown. Beyond Gerrat Street, the original section of the district begins. The shops become smaller and the souvenirs more and more unusual. Anyone who visits Chinatown is immediately surrounded by a Far Eastern aura. Chinese characters and lantern chains adorn the buildings and Asian archways characterize the architecture. Stone lions guard the house entrances and bright neon tubes compete to shine. The smells of curry and coriander waft around the tourists' noses.
