This bascule bridge leads over the Ryck River and connects the two Greifswald districts of Eldena and Wieck. It was inaugurated in 1887 and is now one of the oldest still existing and functioning wooden bascule bridges. You can rightly call it a landmark of Greifswald or Wieck. The residents of the Eldena side do not like to hear it at all when Wieck is always mentioned, although Eldena should also be mentioned.

Fun fact: several times a year there are motorists who ignore the bollard signs, want to drive quickly afterwards and wreck their car. The bollard is just very stable. :)

One of the landmarks of Greifswald! The bridge connects the two districts of Wieck and Eldena. It is a bascule bridge based on the Dutch model that was built at the end of the 19th century. The bridge is a technical monument and can be used free of charge by pedestrians and cyclists. Cars are only allowed to cross the bridge with a special permit (residents, business people, etc.).

The bridge opens for ships when necessary - the bridge is always beautiful to look at!
