    The Solfelsen (sometimes called Pelzkappenstein) was registered as a natural monument in 1950. With a height of 5.4 meters and a mass of 230 tons, the exposed stone is not an ice age boulder, but was created by a long-lasting weathering process.

                    The Solfelsen has been a registered natural monument since 1950. The 5.40 meter high and around 230 tonne heavy stone is not an ice age boulder as one might think, but was formed by a long weathering process. The stone has a volume of around 88 cubic metres. In an unprecedented operation, the large "boulder" was saved from its sad future as railway ballast.

                    Today, the exposed stone lies in the middle of a circular hiking trail and can be viewed by hikers on their way. In photos, it almost looks as if the stone is unsecured and about to fall.
