The Teufelstein near Waldau
In ancient times people were righteous and good, and the devil often had to go to great lengths to destroy someone in his heart so that he could take him to hell. So he once tried to catch the inhabitants of the village of Waldau, which is close to Osterfeld, in sins, but the forest farmers remained honest and pious. The evil man was furious about this. He broke a huge boulder high in the mountains and hurled it against Waldau. But he had taken the distance too short. The stone fell to earth with tremendous force and broke into several pieces. From that time on he left the Waldauer in peace. Later, the farmers tried unsuccessfully to move the rocks away from their fields. It was not possible because the devil was holding the blocks and much, much later, the scratch marks of the devil were recognized in these stones.
