Very beautiful and well-preserved robber baron's castle. Was extensively renovated by private owners. Be sure to take a guided tour! On the one hand, because it is worth seeing, on the other hand, to support the owners and thus to be able to continue to preserve the castle. Enjoy the nature!

At first glance, it seems that this castle of all things would have miraculously survived all the years of looting, the Peasants' War and regular lightning strikes. As it looks today, however, it is only a little over 120 years old. Around 400 years before the reconstruction in 1890, the castle was struck by lightning and subsequently lay in ruins. In the course of the restoration, many parts of the castle were not rebuilt true to the original.

Nevertheless, a trip is always worthwhile.

Admission (as of 2011):

Adults: 4 euros,

Young people, students and groups discount 3 euros (visiting only possible in combination with a guided tour of the castle).

The castle Berwartstein is one of the many castles in the southern Palatinate. The special feature: It was not built "on" the mountain, but painstakingly chiseled out of the sandstone for decades. The traces of the chisels can still be clearly seen today. Another highlight is the well made of sandstone in the middle of the castle. This well secured the drinking water supply of the inhabitants even during a siege. The fountain has a depth of "104" meters! The best way to visit the castle is by means of a guided tour. There are a lot more exciting details about the castle and its inhabitants.
