The tour is worthwhile for all nature lovers with a certain level of basic fitness (1,700 m altitude difference), appropriate equipment (advisable hiking poles, via ferrata set with helmet) and sure-footedness.

Pure ascent time from the Ehrwald valley station approx. 5 1/2 hours. At the top of the summit between 30 and 40 minutes during the week for the summit photo.

Food and drinks are only served until 3 p.m. at the Münchner Haus on the Zugspitze. Mountaineer meal with DAV ID.

Last descent by train towards Ehrwald 4:40 p.m. Single train ticket costs 33 euros.

Before doing so, be sure to memorize/print out the route well, there are a few nasty junctions that you might overlook or go wrong.

If you want, you can split up the tour and spend the night in the Wiener Neustätter Hütte.

Wire rope safety devices have become partially loose, the wire ropes themselves are partially worn and "prickly" gloves are recommended. If there is a lot of snow, the ropes are usually snowed in anyway, but experienced people can climb up easily with crampons and pickaxes.

The climb is not technically difficult, but should not be underestimated in terms of physical condition, as it stretches quite a bit up to the summit ridge without any significant breaks for relaxation. The ascent of the stopper puller height is of course great. You should be careful not to carry a backpack that is too bulky. The views down to the Wiener Neustädter Hütte, which is getting smaller and smaller, are magnificent.

The via ferrata is classified in difficulty level A / B. For beginners, timid, children and not afraid of heights, it is advisable to create a via ferrata set.
Experienced people will not need this.
But a helmet should be a "must", because stones can be kicked out by previous ones.

The Stopselzieher is a very beautiful and rather easy via ferrata, experienced mountaineers do not actually need a via ferrata set. A helmet would still be recommended, as stones can always be kicked off by preceding them.

Depending on the weather, the rock can sometimes be damp, as meltwater tends to run through the caves into the valley.

The climb is highly recommended and easy to do even at night with a headlamp (Siege pictures).

The approach to the via ferrata is a kind of cave through which the steel cable secured path leads. The via ferrata is not difficult in itself, but it does require a lot of stamina. On July 30, 2020 everything was completely snow-free except for the small snow field at Wiener Neustädter Hütte.

The plug puller is a more traditional via ferrata on the Zugspitze. The alpine path is mostly secured with an old steel cable and you have to use your hands to help. You don't necessarily have to hang up the via ferrata set. You should definitely wear a helmet because of falling rocks.

The path leads through a short, cave-like tunnel. That makes the path particularly interesting.

If you spend the night in the small Wiener-Neustädter hut, you can start the via ferrata right in the morning.

A great via ferrata for those with a head for heights. Some sections are unsecured, especially above the Stopselzieher. Nevertheless, the Stopselzieher is a highlight of the Zugspitze. Until then, however, it's a rather monotonous tour. For nature lovers, the route via the Rhine Valley is definitely recommended. However, you'll need to allow considerably more time for this and may want to consider a two-day tour with an overnight stay in one of the huts.
