The idea of converting the former railway line into a cycle path is (unfortunately) quite old. Newspaper articles on the website of Viaduktradweg e.V. go back to 2010. However, the further progress of the project stagnates again and again due to a lack of funding commitments by the district and municipalities.
In 2018/19 there seems to be a new movement in the matter, the necessary permits were issued, the train station in Kotteritz is being renovated, the railway has handed over three of the six viaducts, parts of the route have been sanded. The Viaduktradweg is to be created as a water-bound (= unpaved) path for nature conservation and cost reasons.
According to articles at the time, an opening in sections should be conceivable as early as 2019. Apparently there were delays here again (as of March 2020).
One can look to the future with excitement and hope.
We wish the initiators continued success and strength in mastering the challenges and defying the resistance, and making rapid progress!
