The castle Ehrenberg as mountain spur castle was already mentioned in 1244 as Sifridus de Herinberc. The present complex was built mainly in 1878 in the style of the Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Baroque.
The Altenburg merchants Schönherr and Möller moved from 1805 to 1816 in the Ehrenberg castle complex a cotton mill from Burgstädt.
1878 in the possession of the Altenburg wool manufacturer Bernhard Schmidt.
Since 1925, Gottlieb Franz cultivated the manor and continued to run the brewery, a cannery and mushroom growing since 1913 in the Felsenkeller. The company J.G. Schmidt jun. Söhne AG (ALWO) leased the castle on 11 February 1942 for recreational purposes for employees.
Today, the castle is privately restored, in an outbuilding of the courier, the weekly paper for the Greater Altenburg, Schmölln and Meuselwitz, his seat.
