The Hutberg geologically consists of porphyrite, a fine-grained rock that belongs to the class of volcanic rocks and was formerly mined. The mountain is mostly wooded and partly has a rare dry grass flora. In the area of the former quarry, various protected reindeer and reptile species occur. There are also two small ponds with aquatic plants.

    Legend:

Around the Hutberg there is a legend about a dwarf dwelling once living in the mountain. The dwarfs living in the interior of the mountain lived on the silver mining and had come to great wealth. In emergencies, however, they were prepared to help the people of the area through loans, but insisted on a punctual repayment. One day, on the day of repayment, a man attempted to hand over the borrowed money, but appeared unwashed and without prior prayer, so the dwarf refused to accept the money. Since he had neither prayed nor washed himself at a later repayment date, the dwarf sent him away angrily. But the man was not happy with the money so stolen and was soon poor again after several misfortunes.

On the day of their departure from the Hutberg, the legend describes how men, women and children of the dwarf people traveled in a long train towards the Elbe, boarding a ship there and leaving their homeland with tears in their eyes and never returning.

On the way to the Weißiger Hutberg we come to an area at the former quarry with porphyrite rocks and small pools where water lilies bloom in summer and the amphibian species that are endangered throughout Europe and are under strict protection, such as various toad, frog and newt species offer a protected habitat. The path leads left to the rocky edge of the quarry and then into the forest with the actual summit of the Weißiger Hutberg, whose wooded hilltop used to be used as pasture for livestock. The area around the quarry is now under nature protection and has been declared a natural monument. A hundred meters in an easterly direction we go over the summit markings at the clear spot on the path to the edge of the field. From here we can see the Napoleon Stone and the Triebenberg. In winter the Hutberg with its 311 meters is a popular toboggan hill.
