                                      Meistersel Castle (also called Modeneck Castle or Modenbacher Schloss) is one of the oldest documented castles in the Palatinate. It was built as an imperial castle and was later owned by the Speyer bishops. Like many imperial castles, the Meistersel developed in the late Middle Ages into a so-called Ganerbeburg with numerous owners, among whom the Diocese of Speyer and the Palatinate near the Rhine dominated.
