The 730 meters of the tunnel can be quite cool and long. Part of the way is gravel

Be sure to take a (good) flashlight with you! The tunnel is over 700m long and makes a bend - after about 100m you can't even see the entrance and it's pitch black! If you've watched too many horror films, you have to show your nerves here! ;-) In addition to the dark, it is very cool in the tunnel and it drips from the ceiling.

Coming from the west portal, the first half of the path is paved - then there is a wall with a door (another obstacle for people with weak nerves!) - and the second half is a gravel path.

The tunnel is closed from October to April due to the bats. We were there in July - but didn't see any!

For some time there was a plan to convert the tunnel as a cycle path from Kreuzwerheim to Trennfeld. An opening of the tunnel to hikers and tourists was also discussed between the municipality and nature conservation associations, but this was rejected because the building, as an important hibernation site for pug bats, is not accessible from October to May.
