            Replica of the "Napoleon Stone"

            A replica of the so-called "Napoleon Stone" can be seen at the former "Forsthaus Vorholz" inn. The triangular sandstone obelisk was erected to commemorate the marriage of Napoleon I to Archduchess Marie Louise of Austria in 1810.

            The monument originally stood on the Roßmarkt in Alzey and, after Napoleon's fall, was buried by his supporters at the Fortshaus. It was re-erected there in 1844 with the approval of the Grand Duke. It was then housed in the old Burggrafiat of Alzey in 1933 and returned to Vorholz in 1947. The original stone is now in the care of the Rhineland-Palatinate Open-Air Museum in Bad Sobernheim. Another replica adorns the Rhenish-Hessian Village in Bad Sobernheim.
