The monastery church is dedicated to St. Hedwig, daughter of the counts of Andechs, duchess and patroness of Silesia, one of the most important saints of the high Middle Ages. She died in 1243 and was already canonized in 1267. The founder Eleonore Philippine, Countess Palatine of Sulzbach was born and baptized on the feast day of the saint (October 17th) and was a fervent admirer of St. Hedwig. Therefore, in the foundation letter of May 8, 1753, she determined that the monastery and church of St. to be dedicated to Hedwig. The high altar picture, painted by Otto Gebhard frompcening in 1765, shows St. Hedwig under the cross, that event from the life of the saint, according to which the right arm of the cross picture came loose during her prayer and blessed the praying woman. The monastery church is right next to the ducal palace.
