The Caldera de Los Cuervos stands out for its characteristic profile with irregular edges. In the past, inadequate use was made of its slopes, both to extract pyroclasts for agriculture and construction, and to obtain olivine (green stone used for jewelry). Once at the base of the cone you can comfortably access the interior of the caldera, surrounded by steep dark edges on which only a few rumexes grow.

This volcano is the first volcanic cone formed during the Timanfaya eruption that took place between 1730 and 1736. Today it is known as the Raven's Cauldron (Caldera de los Cuervos).

This opening is the entrance gate to the impressive interior of the Montana de las Lapas or Montana del Cuervo. Depending on the map, there are two different names for the volcano. The inside of the crater is very easy to reach as it is practically at ground level.

On September 1st, 1730, the first volcanic eruption on the island started a whole series of events that changed the landscape of Lanzarote in those years and made the island look almost like a lunar landscape. The first volcano to form at that time was the Cuervo caldera, also known as El Cuervo volcano.

An absolutely worth seeing place! When do you have the opportunity to stand in the middle of a volcanic crater? Incidentally, the El Cuervo volcano was the first volcano to erupt in Timanfaya on September 1, 1730. The volcanic eruptions in Timanfaya lasted 6 years without interruption and around 25 new volcanoes were created which devastated the entire southwest of the island.

There is now a well-developed parking lot at the starting point and paths to the volcano, into the volcano and around it. There are also some geocaches here.
