          According to oral tradition, the name Wolfsschlucht is derived from the dark scene from the opera “Der Freischütz” by Carl Maria von Webern, in which the 7 infallible bullets of the Freischütz were cast in the presence of the devil. The opera premiered in 1821 and quickly gained great popularity.
