The Protestant mountain church of St. Stephan is located in Bad Langensalza in the Unstrut-Hainich district in Thuringia.

It belongs to the Bad Langensalza parish in the Mühlhausen church district of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany.

The church, first mentioned in documents as a chapel in 1196, is the oldest religious building in Bad Langensalza.

The church developed from an original monks' chapel through conversions and additions.

The church of St. Stephani, standing on a hill, is the oldest of the two Protestant parish churches, and was first mentioned in documents in 1196.

The year 1394 above the south portal of the church documents the start of extensive construction work. The church, made of local travertine, has a particularly representative decorative façade on its south side. The older furnishings in the church interior that are worth seeing include the altar with a stone mensa from 1684/85 and the altarpiece from 1631, a Romanesque baptismal font, a coffered wooden ceiling in the nave (mid-16th century), the pillar pulpit dated 1590 with a three-story sounding board, and around 50 stone gravestones from the 14th to 18th centuries, most of which are laid in the ground. The organ on the western gallery was built in 1884/85 by the local organ builder Friedrich Erdmann Petersilie (1825-1901). It is the largest organ from his workshop and is still played today.
