The garden was laid out in the French Baroque style in the 17th century and has retained its character despite subsequent extensions to the south and east. The pleasure palace built on piles in the pond was first mentioned in 1685. Around 1730 a medicinal steel spring was discovered, through which a modest spa business continued until 1880.
