Wittenberge has two nicknames. On the one hand they say "Fahrradstadt Wittenberge", which makes you sit up and take notice immediately. However, this has nothing to do with the fact that the city is extremely bike-friendly (which I still do not want to deny), but rather with the fact that in the past most workers of the local industry cycled to work. Which brings me to the next name: "City of Sewing Machines" - for a long time, Nähmaschinenwerk Wittenberge (a branch of Singer) was one of the largest employers in the region.

Wittenberge has a rich history and is beautifully landscaped. Alone the great old town is worth a visit. Not least because of its good train connection (centrally located between Hamburg and Berlin) Wittenberge is a perfect starting point of your bike ride.

Wittenberge is a beautiful town on the Elbe. Wittenberge has a pretty old town and a beautiful harbor area with a harbor promenade. There are two bridges over the Elbe near Wittenberge: the railway bridge with a pedestrian crossing and the road bridge (B189), which has no crossing for pedestrians or cyclists.
I often go here with my bike and my photo equipment and enjoy it because there are many interesting photo opportunities here!
