The Moosturm is located on the Mooskopf (877 meters) and offers you a wonderful view of the Renchtal, the Rhine plain and, in good weather, even as far as the Vosges. The 21 meter high tower was built in 1890 from red sandstone. The long-distance hiking trails Renchtalsteig, Kandelhöhenweg and the Gengenbach-Schapbach-Alpirsbach cross-path run across the mountain.

Very close to the tower is the impressive Lothar monument. It commemorates the severe damage caused by hurricane Lothar on December 26, 1999 on the Mooskopf and Siedigkopf. Before the storm, the summit was densely forested, after which the entire tree population was destroyed. After all, a colorful and species-rich forest is now growing in place of the former monoculture.

There are several seating areas at the Moosturm, one of which is covered in a pavilion. The 360 degree view from the tower is unique in Ortenau. For me, the nicer place to linger when the weather is nice is the Lothar monument with its seating on the rocks above the sculpture. Here you have a permanently beautiful view when you take a break.

The Mooskopfturm offers a wonderful all-round view over the central and northern Black Forest, to the south to the Feldberg and, with very good visibility, even to the Swiss Alps, as well as to the west into the Rhine Valley and the Vosges. The Mooskopf is a popular (intermediate) destination for hikers and mountain bikers, the area can be explored on many circular routes, and the Kandel-Höhenweg and Renchtalsteig long-distance hiking trails also lead over the summit.
For me personally one of the favorite hiking destinations in Ortenau.❤️
