The Waldfriedhof, laid out in 1913, is the largest cemetery in Stuttgart in terms of area, and the third largest with around 15,000 graves. The name of the cemetery indicates that it was built in the middle of the mixed forest of the Degerloch Forest. The Waldfriedhof is the only cemetery in Stuttgart where "tree graves" (the official name) are allowed. The urns of the deceased are buried in the immediate vicinity of a tree.

Numerous celebrities are buried in the forest cemetery, e.g. B the first Federal President Theodor Heuss, the former Lord Mayors Lautenschlager and Klett and also the entrepreneurs Bosch, Bauknecht and Breuninger.

The most attractive way to reach the forest cemetery is with the funicular ("Erbschleicher- oder Witwenexpress") built in 1929 from Südheimer Platz, accessible with U1 and U14.

Addendum: I don't understand why the administrators turned my highlight "Forest Cemetery" into a highlight "War Graves....".
