The "Töpchiner Seen" nature reserve and its limestone bogs cover an area of 375 hectares. It is right between the towns of Töpchin and Motzen. Numerous species of the habitat type “lime-rich fens” still exist. In addition to a whole range of peat mosses, you can also discover flora and fauna threatened with extinction, e.g. rare brown mosses. Bathing or fishing is prohibited here.

In the 375 hectare nature reserve "Töpchiner Seen", the Stiftung Naturschutzfonds Brandenburg managed to find a botanical sensation: Probably the largest stock of the "genuine swamp moss" in the state of Brandenburg. The reason for the biodiversity in the bogs between Töpchin and Waldeck, the former sputendorf, are the different water and nutrient conditions. However, the lakes of Töpchin have become smaller over the years. Where wet meadows had to be mown 50 years ago, reeds and shrubs now spread. Due to a short drying phase in the 90s, many young alder stands developed. In the nature reserve water buffaloes take over the landscape care today. The cattle and water buffalo biofarm Jack Henry in Töpchin graze the rare sand-dry grasslands and calcareous fens. The frugal animals like to eat reeds and provide the small-sized moor vegetation with more light and air. The circular hiking trail Töpchiner Seen is recommended here.
